A food pantry or foodbank is a non-profit, charitable organization that distributes food to those who have difficulty purchasing enough food to avoid hunger. Food pantries usually operate on the “warehouse” model.
Most food pantries in Oakland County are supplemental. This means that they do not provide you with enough food to live off of, but they do help your budget go further. For example, Hospitality House in Commerce allows their patrons to get food twice per month. They also offer menus and other ideas that will help you stretch your budget. Food banks are very helpful for those that are hungry. Please do not be ashamed to use them. They’re here for you.
